Hi, I came across some Piraiba catfish the other day for about $125. On the site it is listed as a Vaillantii but it looks more like a filamentosum to me, but I’m not sure.which Brachyplatystoma species is this?

Hi, I came across some Piraiba catfish the other day for about $125. On the site it is listed as a Vaillantii but it looks more like a filamentosum to me, but I’m not sure.
Definitely not a vaillantii, at least mine never looked like that. But I’m not an expert by any means.

I too agree with your ID of a true piraiba. Looks like the Brazil / Peru variant. The price is not bad at all.

If you will, keep updating your thread on your piraiba indefinitely so we all grow our knowledge together synergistically.
This fish is still in it's early juv. stage... I've seen baby tigs that look very similar, so I would not count out this being a B. Vallanti as many young shovelnose cats look like this.
