Got some Trevally

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Added the great barracuda to the tank the other day and besides the mangrove snapper sizing him up all is well. He has eaten a few times and swims with no interruptions now that everyone knows it isn't a threat...
Salinity is stable at 1.008 and I originally had the barracuda from supplier in 1.019 and after a month held stable in 1.006-1.009. Fish is a solid 7" from 3.5" a crazy growth in just 6 weeks or so.

No major changes or updates.
Barracuda is acclimated well and nobody bothers him. Unfortunately only eats live and can't or won't compete with the trevally for food. Just hangs out all day in his branches until I tong feed it. At night with the lights off he is way more active and patrols the entire tank, top, mid, and lower in what I assume is for food. I drop minnows in when the trevally calm down and he just darts at them immediately. Also, not a gluttonous fish like everyone else, it will eat until content and then ignore everything else.

Haven't seen where any of Fugu's trevally ended up. That's a really interesting tank for sure.

I may have missed it along the way but is this their long term home? Or can we expect a giant marine tank in future?

Putting the monster back into monsterfishkeepers.

fugupuff fugupuff had some that got almost 20" in a year, these probably won't hit that, but they are close.

As for long term, no this is just a little 360 gallon.
If I keep interest in these I'll go bigger for sure. I'm tossing ideas around of making an indoor pond/lagoon or just get an above ground pool in a shed/greenhouse and see how big I can get these guy's ?

Now that sounds epic. I would agree with those options as they are easily scaled upwards. Looking forward to seeing future updates :D
