I got my pond up and running last week. It was a big mess of smelly leaves and stagnant water? I did not close it down properly before winter and really paid the price for it. It was gross, lol.

Anyway, it’s all clean and after looking it over we decided that we would be causing more problems if we pulled the liner up and mess with the walls. The plan will be to build a second pond to join this one in a year or two as the koi grow. And who wants to say no to a second pond;)

Once that was decided we started on making a fence to enclose the filter. My filter works really well, but is ugly. Haha, so I don’t want to see it.
This is after draining the pond.

The dock is now 5yrs old and extremely faded, so I freshened it up with some stain. 4C4EA800-4907-42F8-98C9-B9C8548D335B.jpeg
I still need to fix the rock around the pond and get my uv light in place. I have the water temporarily going straight into the filter.
After that I’ll start on the patio! I never got around to it last year because our spring started late, gnats(I’m allergic) were so thick you couldn’t breath without them going in your nose and mouth and choking you, and after that it was so hot I lost all ambition to get it done.
So far I’ve gotten a jump on the year and hope to keep it going!

Thank you both?

It’s been a long running project, but I think this year it will get finished. Looking at it right now things are pretty bare. Once my plants get growing for the year it will look a lot better. I have 4 new water lilies, one of my moms old water lilies that ended up going dry when the snow melted?(I hope it’s still alive) and three types of floating plants on their way.
Im debating on moving some climbing roses to both sides of the filter fence. I could end up regretting that, but when they are in full bloom in June it’s so beautiful.

Something pretty exciting happened yesterday. My husband was able to get ahold of the former owners of the koi farm that we bought some of our first koi from five years ago. They only have a couple koi they kept that they didn’t have the heart to part with and sold the rest. They were kind enough to tell us who they sold them to and I’ll be calling them today! On their website they have a picture of a koi that looks so much like my girl Sunshine did❤ I think I might cry if we go and I’m able to get my yellow/orange koi and a blue koi like my boy Stitch. They were top favorites of mine and to have a couple of their relatives would mean the world to me.

It was a busy week last week. I’ve started the patio or rather I finished the walkway to the patio? Next I’ll start on the patio itself.
I have some rocks to move, the wood swing will go, and those blocks in the garden need to be fixed too. Little bits at a time though. I’m doing it by myself for now so I don’t want to kill my hands/wrists before I finish it?

No work got done this weekend. We had errands to run and my husband took me out to a koi farm to pick out some koi?
It was cold and rainy but the owner was so nice and let us take our time. I got way more then I planned on? 11! After seeing his pond set up I think a much bigger pond is in our future ?
It made for a wonderful Mother’s Day?

I also got a couple tiny little fancy goldfish. It will be a while before they can got outside. The little calico is the size of my thumb nail!

And here are the resident koi we got last summer. They are very happy to be back outside again. 6AAE922B-3FA0-42AC-971B-BCF4A273CD10.jpeg
Nemo with his little fin. I think it looks slightly less disproportionate then last year, but I’m sure the left side will always be smaller.
