How big can a spatula gar get?

Are there different types of alligator gars? This species is a new fish to me and I have no idea about them....

Yes their colors can vary a little and younger AG have spots on the tail that fade with age.
That is a young one.
Their are several species of gar. But afaik only one true Alligator gar. Spatula

Baby Gator gar. This little guy was 4 inches when I got him. Went to 24 inches in a year
I got the one I had as a rescue.
The LFS near me brought it in and didn’t realize what it was.
I took it because I knew someone would buy this animal and condemn it to a life of cramped quarters and suffering.
I had a plan.
He went to a guy with a private 2 acre pond once I couldn’t house him any longer.

your an amazing person you care thanks for doing that dude!!! props they are a beautiful species and well deserve that pond.I bet if you hadnt saved it some dude who comes into the shop and puts it in a 20 gallon tank

But I’m nobody.
I just didn’t want to see an animal suffer if I can stop it.

Please don’t get a long nose. They get 5’ +. Get a wider tank, then a Florida. You’ll love it
