Nice, I might have to find something to test this out. I don't have any polarized lenses or sunglasses to test this unfortunately.

I cant seem to find definitive info of with panels are tempered if any but I did find this sticker in the bottom View attachment 1419788

Wish it was more specific, kinda find it hard to believe the whole tank would be tempered.

Normally it's the bottom but wouldn't try it on that aquarium due to the warming.

A warning, before trying to drill the aquarium in the video below, I used the Polaroid sun-glasses/I Pad trick,
It was not a reliable way to determine temper.
This is what happens.......

Ouch! That hurt to watch. I’d be so sad!
what is a reliable way to know if it’s tempered?
My husband is going to drill my tanks in a week or two, but now I’m really scared?

You have to make sure the polarized sunglasses are actually polarized. If you look at a newer then 2005 car driver or passenger side window with polarized sunglasses on you should see "dots" about the size of a quarter. If you don't see them the sunglasses are not polarized correctly. Look at all the panels in the tank too as I didn't with a 75g and that is what happened to me also. Don't assume because 1 panel isn't tempered they all aren't.

A 3 dollar pair of 3 d glasses will tell you if it’s tempered. Look at your car windows first to get an idea of what your looking for. Then look at the tank from multiple angles. If it looks similar to the car windows in any way don’t drill it.

Ouch!

Thanks for sharing that.

Yeah after much reading last night I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get myself a pre made quality overflow box for peace of mind and pair it with the brute. I'm definitely not ready to risk my main tank right now.

Lesson learned, now I understand the benefits of paying a little extra for a pre filled of the bat.

So I got myself an eshopps pf 1800 yesterday and I'm in the process of setting it up. a little over kill as its rated for 200 to 300 gallons but...

Also got two sock filters .

I'll post some pics later one its completed.

I'm pretty excited for this but man oh man this was a bigger task than I anticipated- def not a fan of plumbing and fittings ect.. lol

I have a trash can for my pond filter. This is my second year with it and I love it. So easy to use and clean. We made the box around it because it works great, but looks ugly. ?
The way mine is setup wouldn’t work for a tank, but as others have shown, there are so many ways to set it up for your needs?
