I bought a banjo cat a very long time ago....like so long ago I don’t even remember when....boy was I shocked when I reached in to pluck a dead leaf out of the tank and it swam away, I don’t even know what this guy is eating....I know he’s eating bc he looks plump and healthy.

this is the first time I’ve seen him since I purchased him and a just assumed he died behind the large rock in my tank....

now I need to do more research on them! I don’t remember them having such large mouths haha...looks like an ambush predator...not something I want and was most likely an impulse buy ooopppsss

lol yes I once thought the same about my Banjo Catfish. They will disappear buried in the sand for days. I know they are hungry when they appear. Banjo Catfish look predatory but far from it. I have Browntail Pencilfish in the aquarium and never had one eaten. Unlike Raphael Catfish the Banjo Catfish mouth is smaller. Although I don't see them much they are a old favorite of mine. Appears yours may want eggs but not sure.

This is good news! I have small cardinal tetras in the tank...I must have read they were not able to eat them if I put him in my tank bc I usually don’t make uneducated purchases (usually lol)

when you say mine want eggs, are you referring to the eggs on the wood? They are neirite snail eggs that I cannot get off the wood. I have scrubbed, used a razor blade, nothing gets the eggs off. I will place some extra food in the tank tonight, must be really hungry lol

I was just assuming about the eggs. The Cardinal Tetra's should be fine. When I see a Banjo Catfish I drop a couple of Shrimp pellets in the aquarium. They also eat the small Bug bite pellets that are on the substrate after feeding the Pencilfish.

I didn't know these were nerite eggs - do they hatch? I've never had a baby, thinking they needed a marine stage.
Botia will eat them; rip them right off the glass, stone, whatever.
Scotchbright works, but it's a lot of work... I've also not had trouble with razorblade if/when it gets to that.

Yea these eggs will never hatch as it’s straight freshwater. I’m also never heard of anyone successfully raising or hatching the eggs. I think they go through a larva stage that is tough to get them to survive through?

I’m to the point I’m going to toss that piece of wood out as it literally will not come clean!

Again....definitely not dead...haven’t seen this guy since June. I’m always wondering if it’s getting enough food...well I know for sure it won’t die of starvation. I think he might burst instead
