Sexing Jaguar Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Heres a pic of my male jag. See how his pattern differs from yours. Females have less spotting especially around the jaw. I have seen pics of pairs where females look allot like males with lots of spots but your pics of the vent confirm at least to me that its a female.

I bought 5 at my local petco. I walked in one day for some fish food and they had 5 jags about 1.5” for $5 each. I was thinking of buying one to grow out and put in a large tank so I figured it was fate telling me to buy them lol.

Just another jag thats half his size. I cant figure out if its a female or male tho. They acted like they were pairing up but they never seem to be completely paired. Hes kinda rough on him/her but acts like he wants to pair so im guessing female. I think if it was a male he would have killed him by now. I keep thinking of removing the smaller jag cause hes so rough with him/her at times and has some battle marks.

Send pictures of the pair

Heres a video of them when they first started acting like they might pair up. The male dug a big pit on one side of the tank. The smaller jag was going and sitting in the pit for about a week. I also forgot that one day I was doing water changes and the smaller jag had its tube extended. It looked like a females egg tube. So im pretty sure its a female and they are just not sure if they want to pair up. I have another video from the same day I will post once its finished downloading.
