School year project

Still are you sure your able too handle the investment of a monitor lizard honestly if you want a big lizard get a tegu they have a calmer disposition compared too a monitor and honestly that habitat is not big enough for a monitor/tegu and may I remind you just got your first reptile which is a crestie which are the polar opposite of monitors/big lizards(caiman lizards, tegus, iguanas, water dragons) if anything get a pink tongued skink which will be perfect for that habitat
unlike their heavy weight cousins the pink tongued skink is an arboreal species of skink and they have have almost exactly the same care as a blue tongued skink.
Well..... it is called a school YEAR project so I think I’ll be fine. Do pink tongues skink climb?

Yes the pink tongued skink(C. gerrardii)does climb and they grow too a smaller size 18in including the tail, than the northern blue tongue(Tiliqua scincoides intermedia) but mostly eat the same diet. Watch these 2 videos

Heres an another species thats pretty good its called the emerald tree skink here is a video
Also if your willing too pay a little more you could always try one of many species of crocodile skinks and make a paludarium Here is another video
As you can tell I like skinks.

Heres another group of lizards you will love they are the aborina or the mexican alligator lizards.
They behave very similarly too some of these bigger lizards you want and they are very personable but the only downside is they are a bit on the pricy but totally worth it for this rare gem. Here is another video

I looked into a red eyed croc skink but they are expensive and very hard to keep

One option you could go for, for a small arboreal reptile, is an Emerald Swift. They stay roughly 5-7in and like to climb. They basically remind me of a smaller better looking bearded dragon imo. Here's a pic of one btw just so ya know what they look like. Females are generally a dull brown-tan color while the males get the bright emerald green with a blue tail, beard and underbelly. Pretty cheap pets too at only $25-30. Only down sides are that they need a live food diet, calcium dusted, and a UV light for basking along with a heat lamp. Honestly they are very underrated reptiles imo.

im looking for something I can bring to my lfs on a reptile leash, sounds weird i know. but I do it with my crested(not on a leash) but if I had like a larger reptile that'd be so cool

Anything that big may not work in the tank.

One option are neon tree dragons. 10-12 inches, but also super hard to care for.
