Anybody knows any sellers of these cats?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unfortunately I am in the uk so what I find available will be of no use to you since it’s not financially viable for me to buy fish from the us or you to buy them from the uk.
We have nothing like the same number of importers willing to sell to joe public as you do.
However, if I see something available in the uk there is a chance it’s available in the us and pier aquatics here have a large number of ageneiosus magoi for around £50 per fish.
L.pati are available one fish every blue moon. One was available here last year and if I was quicker I would have it but Josh(Rpul) saw it first.

Not all species catfish are available in the trade, some species id kinda vague, some are considered rare, some species people doesn't have access to it.

On behalf on the "shark" species, like the Pangasius bocourti, species id are vague. Any Helicophagus species are terrible to kept alive hence, their rarity in the hobby despite being a common fish in Thai, Myanmar, Malaysia. As for Pangasius larnaudii, they're farm fish. Should've seen them more in the hobby but have no idea why it's not commonly imported like other common Pangasius species.

So basically anything other than Paroon, Id Shark, MGC, larnaudii, are quite rare. Even farm bred Pangasius conchophilus haven't been imported outside of Asia.

Okay so for Pangasius larnaudii if I were too find it for sale I would have too have it in a species only tank with a few others, do you know how much they commonly priced for.

What are the other Ageneiosus that are commonly offered?
Larnaudii go for $20 (ebay, aquabid) to $50 (LFS). My experience with them is described well in my thread dedicated to them.

For instance, A. marmoratus, A.lineatus if memory serves.

Until 2015 I have never seen them for sale. Then they started to appear. You can ask Sam aka Fishonlinerus on Aquabid, if he is still in business. I bought 5 from him in two batches. He called them some weird name like a giant blue shark catfish or some such...

Read my thread though. You might not want to get them after all. They have been exceedingly difficult for me, especially after shipment, they are a wreck.

No I haven’t read all your threads yet but they all very detailed and very entertaining/ informational.
Okay so on the point of the black ear maybe if I grab a bunch like 10 with a few IDS in a big stock tub so they don’t stress out from side and no aggressive tank-mates, and if its outside the Uvb may improve its health and very planted with floating plants on top maybe the answer. Also what tankmates would you recommend with pangasius species?

A. Lineatus (sp. green line) and a. Astronatus are also both available for sale with a UK vendor who delivers them so good chance both are available in us.

Thank you.

The biggest challenges were three for me with the larnaudii (IDS is known for freak outs but they have little on larnaudii's) -
-- the arriving so stressed as if dying
-- being exceedingly timid, skittish, and incompatible with even moderately or inconsistently aggressive tank mates
-- and the long stressful periods of getting used to new tanks.

Having them in a pond should help a lot, in one part eliminating nervous pacing and rubbing sores on glass. UV is usually a good idea but it has costs associated with it. Thick floating plants will slow down the infusion of fresh oxygen into the water plus plants rob the water of DO overnight, I am not sure about surface plants though.

The most timid tank mates, or indifferent.
