What can me housed with a flowerhorn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah sadly that's the case with most FH's. That's why I would mainly go with species that are either fast enough to escape or tough enough to handle the abuse. Also I find that having something that's nocturnal can also work just due to both fish being active during different times.

He will thrash pleco at night as well.

I'm just saying it's just a lil less likely to happen not that it won't. Like we've told OP before, that it's generally best to keep FH's by themselves but we're just giving them some options that could possibly work given the right circumstances.

Yes, just added that it didn't work for me, it has a good chance of working for few others for sure. I see so many with plecos and my fish lived with one when I got him so I was hoping it would work. I gave away that pleco due to move then no pleco for almost 6 months, first pleci was normal colored and new one is albino, I assume that plays a role as well. I recently saw someone put tin foil barbs and parrots and got itch to get something new again. Then a youtube video with mbuna raised it little more, lol.

It's based on the personality of your fish and your tank size. I've seen this guy called Chris on youtube ,his channel is 'palmer aquatics' and he managed to put his red dragon into a tank with South and Central american cichlids. He said there was occassional fighting but wouldn't last enough for the fish to injure each other. The fish was raised with african cichlids. He did have to separate the flowerhorn into his own tank to stop the aggression after a while.

I have seen pleco, blood parrots, tin foil barb, mbunas work. But that's rare and mostly nothing works. My fish beats everything that moves.
Just to add. I tried parrots, plecos, silver dollars and nothing yet worked for me.

I got few kenyi cichlids some days ago, grew them up in 40 gallon and at 3" size added 4 to 75 gallon. Flowerhorn sometimes chases them, much more initially, but it's getting normal.

Ehh he's just swatting at the flies buzzing around him lol. I am honestly surprised that yours gets along so well with em. Most FH's I've kept refused to have roommates.
