I like these open ended questions keep em coming! My most underrated or under kept fish, or maybe undiscovered in the hobby is the striped killifish.

I think rainbow cichlids are under rated, they’re not that common in LFSs , at least here and they check all the boxes

I think it's convict cichlids ,to me they were the next best thing to a large CA cichlid because they had the personality and not the size.Because they spawn so rapidly they get a bad rep and most people say they can't be kept with anything.

In my opinion, an under rated fish is a hardy, not common, mostly peaceful, affordable, cool looking fish. In my opinion any killifish, some gobies, and paradise fish are underrated. The paradise fish are becoming more common, but there are other species like Pseudosphromenus cupanus, I haven’t seen them in stock in a while, lucky me I bought some and was successfully able to breed them and raise them before they committed suicide by jumping out of the tank lol. Cool, small, colorful fish with a ton of personality.

I agree with convicts and rainbows. Oscars as well. They are seen so much as stock cichlids, but each of them has so much more to offer.

I think goldfish are also quite underrated. So full of personality and intelligence, and so beautiful, but are overlooked as being “just a fish”.

I almost went with convicts but the aggression and that how every lfs sells them means they’re actually really popular
