most underrated fish in your opinion

For sure! I wish natives were as common in the hobby as tropicals! It's kinda weird they aren't more prevalent when you think about it. Ultimate Dream Fish on Instagram is a great place to see and learn about native fish. So many beautiful species there that I wasn't even aware of!
big fan of them!

Gulper catfish, people think they don’t live long or are hard to keep. Personally I have a awesome relationship with mine and he’s pretty easy to take care of.

How long have you had him? I constantly read that they don't seem to last long in captivity for even experienced keepers. Unless you have been successful for at least a year or more, I wouldn't be claiming victory with an iffy species like that.

Postings from folks who got a fish last week or last month, and now feel like it's time for the world to learn their husbandry secrets, are actually a bit silly. My wife typically buys big, lush, beautiful houseplants. A year later, they are spindly twigs with a couple of tiny dessicated leaves clinging to them. She proudly proclaims they are "doing fine".

Her definition and my definition of "fine" are somewhat varied.

I’ve had him since April 10th this year. So it’s been a little while, I just meant I have not had any problems with him.

Giant danios are another great one. Such a fun and beautiful fish, but everyone sees them as just a filler or a dither that eventually gets eaten.
A lot of fairly common damsels are underrated in my opinion because everyone thinks of them as a cycler fish and not a pet in their own right. A school is actually very nice to watch.
Totally agree! They are all deemed as “too aggressive” so nobody gets to truly accept them for what they are. Really saltwater equivalent to mbuna in my opinion.

The most under rated fish in my opinion are Cichlasoma Dimerus's & Blood Parrots. The's CD's have so much personality, interesting behavior, and a peaceful nature about them making them a good fish in my opinion. They also can be housed in a relatively roomy tank but don't need too much space as they only get to be a 5 1/2 -6 inch. chunky fish. BP's also have a great personality, great tank bosses/defusers, and because of their unique mouth even if they decide to go on an aggressive rampage they can't do much damage! They are more common and available in certain areas but they still aren't regarded well due to their deformities and due to being a hybrid cichlid and being ''designed''. One of the best fish to have from what I've dealt with now!! They too are chunky fish, a common thing to see in my tanks ??
