most underrated fish in your opinion

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’ve had him since April 10th this year. So it’s been a little while, I just meant I have not had any problems with him.

All good, I wasn't taking a swipe at you personally. Congrats, you already seem to have kept this fish going for longer than the bulk of the reports I've come across.

I can see 2021 being a breakthrough year for you Brian in overcoming your recent setbacks regarding these fish. You need to crack the enigma that is the shoehead catfish. I wish you luck my friend.

I’m currently downsizing about 75% of my stock and tanks however I’m dedicating a 75 gallon to them and if possible I’ll be getting a 125 or another 75 for them as well. Hopefully 2021 will be good to us. And damn I feel old, 2021, it feels like yesterday it was 2014 :rip

Good to hear that you have a plan to look forward to, good luck. And if you feel old, how the hell do you think I feel, I think I have a pair of trousers older than you, lol.

You probably have furniture that’s older than me lol

To me one of the most underrated fish is common Paradise fish (Macropodus operculatus), they tolerate temps from below 50'F to almost 100'F, will tolerate low oxygen conditions, and are still beautiful. I kept some in my rain barrels spring thru fall in Wisconsin to eat mosquito larvae, and could always count on pulling a few juvies out in fall.
The most "Over Rated" fish to me, are flower horns, BPs and any other designer fish.

Personally I believe that Lepomis Humilis, a.k.a. the Orange Spotted Sunfish, is one of the most underrated fish out there. Being very hardy, able to withstand temps below freezing (as long as the water is deep enough) and tolerates a nice range of PH (anywhere from 6.5-8) and they have enough beauty that they can even rival some African cichlids. Also the fact that males only reach 5in while females tend to stay at 4in makes em able to fit into most commercial fish tanks that ya could find in almost any pet store. Their only downside imo is that they just seem to be a lil flighty compaired to their bigger relatives. Lol but that enough taking about them so I'll upload a pic for everyone to see how beautiful these US native fish are. Lol even with how small they stay, man do they have allot of color.
