My pair of 6" jags seem to be spawning. Just noticed the eggs today.. after the male seems to not welcome anything hovering above the water. Net and hands notwithstanding. He'll leap viciously clear out of the water to try to intercept them.
The issue is there seems to be algae buildup. What would be the best time to introduce an algae eater later, and what type? Or if it is even advisable to have one? ?

Any kind of pleco will try to eat eggs and wrigglers, or die trying.
Another thing you might water to consider is that algae is great grazing for fry in between feedings, once they are free swimming.
I always allow algae to build up on glass and other objects in my fry raising tanks, just for that purpose, although usually clear a bit of the front glass with a scraper to see whatsgoing on.

Nerite snails are really good cleaners and get rid of algae. Try and sneak them in if u can. I sneaked some in with my Monster fish and wish I did it earlier for the algae.

Mollies eat algae, but are at high risk with jags.
I got this for algae:

Faster and more effective than any pleco or snail I’ve ever had.

Noted with thanks. I intend to leave some of the algae for the fries when they hatch. Appreciate if you can advise how long before the tank can be cleaned, without harming the fries. Heard the parents will take care of the fries even when they started swimming
