Predator fish for a 10 gallon aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just get a betta and some white clouds. Boom there’s a pretty little predator for your 10g tank

and if you really want to get fancy get some ghost shrimp or cherry shrimp and that betta will seem like a cool voracious predator.

Could a arrowhead puffer work. If I’m wrong I’m sorry, I’m not a puffer person.
arrow head puffer, red eye puffer(not to be confused with c.irrubesco or salvatore), dragon puffer are all common names for the same puffer. lurkers deserve bigger than a 10 but they are pretty sedentary and could probably live in a 10. the problem with puffers is that they almost always deserve the higher end of tank sizes because theyll surf the glass relentlessly if theyre unhappy so its worth just buying an appropriately sized tanks.

you mean feeders?

i have a red eye puffer(c.irrubesco )in a 10 gallon but hes going into a 40 when i buy bulk sand for my other tanks. he might be able to stay in a 10 and he eats like a beast.

This is what its like to own an arrowhead.... like owning a pet rock! Its awesome when they come out to feed, but after that 30 seconds is over they go back to being a pet rock.

You could do one in a 20L or even a 20h. Its not so much an issue with tank size in a 10 gallon, its really a lack of water volume to dilute waste. A 10 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump? lol

Redeye would appreciate a bit more space.
Any predator that will eat live fish needs at least 30.
Dwarf puffer is the only true predator with an aggressive feeding response that can happily live in a 10 for life.

some people say that the activity level varies specimen to specimen and that they leave this behavior once accustomed to aquaria. i think undergravel filter+ lots of plants as well as philodendrons growing out the back would be more than suffecient. i once built a snall sump for a 10 gallon using one of those turtle filters that are like internal hob filters and it was super easy.

even though it isnt a fish i think you should seriously consider a budget frog if youre looking for a real predator for a 10 gallon. a budget frog will eat things that only the biggest of aquarium fish will eat like pacman frogs, mice, fish, large insects and anything else.

Male claw frog is also a great predator of its legal.

Minnows aren’t a good feeder, contain dangerous chemicals and have spines that get stuck in the throat.
