Oddballs for 55 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I continue to love my single stripped headstander, Anostomus anostomus, and feel it is an interesting option, as these fish all full of cool antics. These in my opinion need to be kept as single fish, unless one can have a group of them. Two or three fish won't ever work. A 55gal would be good for this fish, along with other fish that can put up with it.
My fish is a bit of a jerk, and for this reason it has been moved around among various tanks. Since a few months ago I placed it in a 75gal tank with 3 Metynnis silver dollars, cories, and 2 bushynose plecos. In this configuration, it is very well behaved and I am happy. Pictures below are from a prior configuration, which also worked relatively well.

Headstanders... your fish can’t live with them, but you can’t live without them...
At least in the case of my a hole banded lep.

M Mr.Catfish had this:

55
rainbow darters
orangethroat darters
greenside darters
logperch
blacksided darter
mottled sculpin
southern redbelly dace
blacknose dace
redside dace
blackstriped topminnow
brook silverside
orangespotted sunfish
white sucker

Seems like a hella lot of fish. Cut that in half, and pick a few, and maybe this would work. Thoughts?

Seems like it would be safe like you are planning.

3 kinda of large darters
2 Mottled Sculpin
10 dithers (Scarlet Shiner, some kind of Dace, or Mosquitofish)
And then some kind of showy fish (Sunfish, something that is compatible, which is hard to find)

I recently got a 56 gallon custom Acrylic tank. Yes, 56 gallons. I got it for 100% free. So I have a general idea of what I want

-oddballs (my number 1 priority)
-Natives (My 2nd priority)
- NO CICHLIDS!!!

Anybody have any ideas? I’m open to anything!

Edit: I would love preditory!
african butterfly fish have an insane feeding response and doesnt encroach on midlevel swimmers or bottom level .
