What fish surprised you the most?

Do you feed it sinking or floating pellets?
Your new gar looks great. How long is it? 13" - 15" ?

I feed my gar both sinking and floating. I believe he prefers sinking though, and besides, the datnoid eats all of the floating pellets before he can get to them.
My new gar is only 7-inches at the moment. Haha, the photo makes him look big.
Here is a better shot of his size with my hand:

Another fish that really took me by surprise was my African Lungfish. I bought one at about 8-10" thinking (erroneously) that it would get along in a large community of African cichlids and catfish.

The speed and lethality of that thing was only rivaled by its growth rate and (seeming) smarts. After it ate a couple of fish I moved it to its own 6' tank. It would beg for shrimp and fish to eat - really interactive and different than anything else I've kept. I was tempted to hand feed it but knew better...

When we moved across the country I basically gave a 2.5' lungfish to a guy who promised to give it a good home. I hope he did as they can live for decades.

From what I understand lungfish are like a larger more psychotic puffer but god are they beautiful. I like the dwarf one the best.
