I’m still working on rehoming all of my fish in my 40g but since I’m rehoming all but 1 of the fish in the 40g (the one fish im keeping is going to be moved to a 29g) I was wondering if there were any aggressive fish I can put in my 40g when everyone is out of it. I want something extremely aggressive something that if I put my finger in the water it’ll try to take it off or at least attack my finger ( I won’t be putting me finger in the water with the fish). I’m just wanting something vicious. I was thinking exodons but they’re very hard to find in stores and I will not be buying online unless a lfs can order them for me.

Well like I said a lurker puffer will certainly take your finger ofd or at least a chunk. Ask vincentwugwg vincentwugwg as if I remember correctly he had a big mbu puffer bite through his metal watch wrist strap.

Hairy or arrowhead puffer are nasty but puffers as a whole are difficult.
Exodons do best in a larger tank to avoid killing each other.
I say look no farther than the red wolf fish. Very predatory and fearless + easy to feed and care for. My current dream fish.1623016831612.jpeg

How big do they get. Also not sure about puffers I’ve had them many times and I find them extremely difficult to care for

Puffs are definitely tricky... mine are a pita but fun.
Red wolf is 8-10 inches on average.

So a red wolf would be able to stay in a 40g for life

I was told I could keep one in my 36 gallon, so 40 is better. I opted for puffers for activity, but would recommend the wolf to anyone in a heartbeat.

I’ve read that they need at least 55g. Not completely sure how big of a difference if 15 gallons is to a fish though so I don’t know but if possible I’ll definitely buy one. A lfs that recently opened has at least 3 different wolf fish every time I’m in there so it shouldn’t be too hard to find

Make sure it’s the red if you get one. The rest are significantly larger.
Other options are the smaller pike cichlids or larger betta species.
What is your plan with your current flowerhorn?

I personally advocate for more space, I personally wouldn’t keep a red wolf in less than a 4’ x 2’
