Cute little guy, or gal?

Is the colour changes due to aging or does he/she change colours based on moods? I know some of my dwarf cichlid constantly change colours based off of mood but not quite that extreme.

Mood, mine does especially when pouty.

Well, I believe I finally have an answer to the original question of this thread, "cute little guy, or gal". My chocolate cichlid has been burrowing in the substrate just lately and a few times i've seen the egg tube. Also, it's been getting uncharacteristically sulky, turning away from me when trying to take pictures, see below. So at long last I can now refer to my choc.....as a chick!!

Another clue is lack of appetite. Every female cichlid I have stops eating 2-3 days before they lay and 2-3 days after.

Pic taken the other day. And just what the heck is THIS color scheme...hot mess? Looks like Bobo fell in a paint bucket. Plus he's got stripes in one spot...:screwy:

Most recent pic of Bobo in her 'tiger' mode. This version is banana yellow with black stripes. Her other version is almost white with medium brown stripes. Discovered she is female despite having a humpy head. Last measured at 10+".

I came downstairs to a very pleasant site this morning. My chocolate cichlid guarding a batch of eggs!!!!

She's been digging in the substrate for a while now, and I've saw her egg tube protruding the odd time so I knew she was becoming sexually mature.

Anybody got any spare male chocolate cichlid jizz they can send me, lol.

My 120g tank, home to my choc cichlid, is positioned at the side of a window, and in the early evening in summer, if the sun is out, I've found that one end of the tank gets bathed in lovely sunshine for about an hour.

My choc cichlid certainly enjoys it, here she is sunbathing. She's about 7" now, and quite chunky with it. Nothing like the little pipsqueak she was when I bought her, lol.
