Fish Stocking for a 1,000 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
..puSkar.. ..puSkar.. Thanks. Anyways, finally I decided to do away with the severums completely for fear of overcrowding the tank. Now the final stocking would be
1 silver arowana, 1 clown knife, 1 royal pleco, and 2 female oscars

Good stocking but I suggest you grow them out a bit in a smaller maybe a 4ft tank ( if you have any) cause that may be a good final stock when the fish are mature, but when you have them initially in such a large tank they may get stressed and the tank also will look very empty. If you are plan on adding them directly then consider to give them some cover as in fake plants and some caves, keep the lights dim.
BTW where you from?

I’m from Pune, India.
Also, I wouldn’t mind having the tank look empty for the first few years. I’ll also probably have a semi-planted setup.
But do you think the fish stressing out could be a huge problem? I personally have never heard of this. I mean, I’ve comfortably kept just three young fish in a 300 gallon tank. I think the ’overtly-large’ enclosure problem only applies to reptiles, and snakes in particular.

Might not be a problem with the cichlids once they know you, but the aro might be skittish the first few months.
BTW who's making the tank ? Blessings pune? And what thickness are you using?

Okay thanks.
The tank is to be custom built from an acrylic fabricator company, but not in Pune city. It will be shipped here from Mumbai. And since it‘s 4.5 ft wide, the panel to be cut itself is 9ft. And at the roof, the thickness is some 1.5 inches of acrylic. And at it’s thickest, its 3 inches thick.
There is a 6ft sump, but the aquarium itself is 10ft x 4.5ft x 36 inches. My largest currently us a 500 gallon planted fresh-water.
Fish are Pune-bought, but you have to have them ordered 2-months in advance. But that’s okay, since cycling the aquarium will probably take that long, if not more.
Had to have the floor of the house reinforced because the aquarium with all its sump and water will weigh about 7,000 kg.
By the way, do you think there will be more room to house two large severums after the 1 silver arowana, 1 clown knife, 1 royal pleco, and 2 female oscars? Or will that be overcrowded?

Bro you won't even find 5ft tanks at 90% of the stores except for South India, mumbai, pune delhi and maybe some other big cities. ?
For that tank size I'd say you can go with the severums. I don't think it'll be overcrowded. ?
Yeah, custom made… kinda compelled to. Purchasing a 500 gallon aquarium in my area is hard enough. Tanks rarely exceed the 300-350 gallon mark around shops where I live.
BTW can we see some pics of your current tanks?

Sorry, but one last question before I go. Could I put a single fire eel INSTEAD of the severums? (sorry again, this thread has already dragged out more than I‘d expected).
Below is the ~350 gallon tank. My largest was a 500 gallon, andI had a smaller 120 gallon one before that. But when I get the 1,000 gallon, this one will be probably sold.

Will be fine but the only problem will be feeding it. If you can manage target feeding it won't be a problem ?
