Does anyone have experience in using filter socks in their sump system?
How does it differ from filter wool?

which one do you clean out more often?I have used both, but started using filter socks in more sumps for about 20 years.

I have a routine, and use 3 socks for each outflow pipe.
While one is filtering, one is soaking in bleach (to clean it out), and one is drying out waiting to be rotated into service.
I like to clean/rotate them every couple days
The reality is both floss and socks do the same thing, so its just about what fits into your maintenance style.
It may also be about cost, socks run about $6 each retail price on-line.
Some people clean them in a washing machine (instead of with bleach) some hose them down. But I find just tossing them in bleach allows them to last longer, (not get beat up as fast)

If the sump has a standard filter sock compartment then you would need to buy the correct size aquarium filter socks to fit the housing there. But I suppose it depends on if your diy sump is setup for these filter socks or cotton men's socks, pillow cases, etc. You get the idea.I’m doing diy sump and plan on both filter sock and filter floss(poly-fil),will a regular cotton sock work in place of store bought filter sock?
