Zero Nitrates, no water change,. This is aquarium 2021.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that looks like a very complex setup
450 Gph in tank submersible pump into a filter floss basket, above the tank. Which gravity drains at full siphon into the pvc pipe. Which evenly distributed the water across the back of the tank to flush out the rocks.

Then the pump flow is split to a side flow tube at the front right corner. To push waste towards the pump.

I did the same with a refugium, unfortunately it was to good that I had to dose nitrates to my system. Nitrates are a good thing to have in a reef :)

I found in my reef tank that if the nitrates got to low the corals weren't as happy or colorful. I found between 5-10 was perfect. Of course that was after trying to reach absolute 0 with multiple techniques.

Agree. Mine were normally around 10. Wouldn’t even worry about 20. I had phosphates from 0.08 up to 0.62. Again never a worry. Sps were happy

On my freshwater system, Blue Green algea starts smothering my algea I am en encouraging to grow.
