Fish at local restaurant display pics

I'm assuming that's in reference to my usage of the metric system? No, I am not from Europe.

Interesting tank indeed. Yes, the biggest fish are cramped badly but it is not our tank. We can express our opinion, sure, no problem, like I have just done too, but it pays to keep in mind that no one is asking for it, so this should determine a good sense of where to stop with critique.

The catfish is a Hemibagrus, most likely the wyckioides aka ARTC. They are farmed in SE Asia and color morphs probably abound.

This looks to be a chinese or japanese or korean restaurant from the hieroglyphs on the side of the tank.

There is not much sense in talking about the maximal sizes of fish and hence maximal (minimum) sizes tanks in absolute terms. Proper current tank size depends on the fish current size. It'd be nice if the current tank was tripled in size.

It’s a Thai / Chinese restaurant. I’ll snap pics of their salt water tank that’s even bigger next time I go.

Wow, a platinum redtail of that size? That's some serious $$ for something that's just gonna die in that cramped tank

This is a Hemibagrus (Asian RTC). I am not sure if this was clear. "Redtail" by default means Phractocephalus (SA RTC).

Is this in the USA? We don't know the owner's motivation. It's a guessing game. Maybe they don't care. Maybe they got it for free. Not everything is about the money. Or maybe they know exactly what they are doing and get customers that way in the door. Maybe they hope some day someone will order up that fish on a plate... Who knows.

IMO its just a deformed xanthic RTC… u can see the characteristic bone/head plate pattern in the 2nd pic. Not that it really matters lol… Def. Not deformed by the “tank situation”. With the abundance of man made ones these make it through quite frequently much like the deformed TSN that should b “culled”…

There about cheap as chips already with how much there being produced… juvies are down to $75-150 from the more “honest” sellers and thats U.S. prices… were stupider over here and easily swayed by the term “platinum” or an imaginary grading system for any white looking and actually not genetically platinum fish ??… IMO wont b long before there on the same “level” as their normal colored counter parts… basically free with housing issues/requirements once they hit 2’ or so…
