Fish for 36 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Red wolf is a squeeze for a 36, but it was recommended for me when I was stocking my 36. I wound up opting for the puffers for activity.
Marximus Marximus kno4te kno4te J Joshuakahan all have experience, among others here.
One of the big things is that they jump, so you would want to cover that lid.
I think the footprint is not ideal for a red wolf, from my experience, a 40b would be the minimum

What fish would you recommend
If you’re looking for a solo predator fish, I’d go with one of the pao type puffers
You could also get away with a red wolf for a while if you got it small, but you would have to upgrade at some point, probably by 1 1/2-2 years
There’s a few cichlids that would work, Shell dwellers are sweet, maybe a group of smaller julies
You could probably do a pair of keyholes or HRPs
Also apistograma would also be an option
I have a dragon puffer and it’s straight badass and very interactive. They also don’t have a constantly growing beak, which makes them easier, so of all the ideas, that’s my vote

I was looking at the dwarf pikes but also was wondering if there was a type that could be a solo gish

Possibly a belly crawler. I had one that maxed out at 8” and wasn’t very active. I would’ve probably been comfortable keeping mine in a 36 with lots of caves to explore due to the low activity, but you might have to do lots of WCs once it gets bigger
It would be similar to keeping a red wolf in a 36, not ideal but could work, at least for a while. A purple wolf might be a possibility as well.
