Super interesting. I put one of the babies in the main tank with the parents and expected them to eat it. Now the baby is sharing a pot cave with the female festae and she's chasing anybody who comes close. I did not expect her to display any paternal behavior.

Reunited with his parents. I've been blown away by how they immediately started hovering around him and chase any of the other tankmates away from him. They obviously know this is their offspring. I have 2 male festae in the tank my female wants nothing to do with. She is bonded to my Midas cichlid.

Picture update. Holding on to black fin colors so far and outgrowing siblings about 2x. Siblings are all blotchy but these two are about 3.5" Pic of dad as well

Looks to have dominate midas genes. I don't see any festae in the frys at all.

The peeling gene is strangely dominant, with the barred gene in amphilophus allegedly being recessive. Most amphilophus hybrids peel. Not to give anyone any ideas, but midas crossed to convicts ends up making tiny 6 inch midas.

The smaller fry have blotchy bars hoping they color up but only time will tell. My midas is over 10yrs old now so glad I'll have his offspring.
