Diamond Sturgeon
Acipenser gueldenstaedtii

Size: 4’
pH: 7.0-8.0
Tank size: 2000G/Individual
Country of origin: Russia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Romania, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine
Diet: Most live, frozen, and prepared foods of an appropriate size will suffice
Temperament: May be predatory, though relatively peaceful
Temperature: 55-70° F

Description

Acipenser gueldenstaedtii is a coldwater to temperate fish really best suited for pond life. These fish are known largely from their caviar, which is part of the reason they are critically endangered. The link above is one where you can buy captive-bred specimens. I believe this is also the first European fish I have included.

Chinese Mandarin Goby
Sineleotris saccharae

Size: 3”
pH: 6.5-7.5
Tank size: 15G/Individual
Country of origin: China, particularly Hong Kong
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Peaceful, though slightly predatory and territorial
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Sineleotris saccharae is an extremely rare goby exclusive to Hong Kong. Information on their care is incredibly scarce, and some aspects must be assumed based on educated guesses. They exhibit very vibrant patterning. Once these very rare fish are sold out, they may not be back for a while, so buy them while you can!

Schooling Bumblebee Goby
Brachygobius aggregatus

Size: 1”
pH: 7.0-8.5
Tank size: 10G/1 small group
Country of origin: Vietnam, Philippines
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Peaceful, though slightly territorial
Temperature: 75-80° F
sg: 1.000-1.005

Description

Brachygobius aggregatus is very similar to the rather common Brachygobius doriae, Brachygobius xanthozonus, and Brachygobius xanthomelas. However, they are different in a number of ways, and extremely rare. It is very possible that this species is sometimes caught, and mistakenly sold under a different name.

Piraiba Catfish
Brachyplatystoma filamentosum

Size: 7’ [Sometimes larger]
pH: 6.0-7.5
Tank size: 10000G/Individual
Country of origin: Throughout most Amazon and Orinoco river drainages
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Predatory and territorial, may tolerate some similarly-sized fish
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Wow… a hundred already? It’s sort of hard to believe, but here we are. Though the title of largest catfish is sometimes disputed, Brachyplatystoma filamentosum is certainly up there. These colossal catfish are rather widespread throughout most Amazon and Orinoco river drainages, yet are very rare in the trade. Not many piraibas available on the market are, in fact, true piraibas. Perhaps the largest catfish in South America.

Temperament: Predatory and territorial, may tolerate some similarly-sized fish

You could also go the route of a big school of small fish (neons, tiger barbs, kuhli loaches, etc) as piraiba tankmates. It's so big that they're almost certainly going to be too small for it to waste energy chasing.

False Piraiba Catfish
Brachyplatystoma capapretum

Size: 3’ [Often smaller]
pH: 6.0-7.5
Tank size: 350G/Individual
Country of origin: From Brazil to Peru
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Predatory and territorial, may tolerate some similarly-sized fish
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

One hundred down, who knows how many left to go? Many “Brachyplatystoma filamentosum” for sale are actually Brachyplatystoma capapretum. These fish, sometimes not even reaching three feet, are considerably smaller, and could even serve as a dwarf piraiba. Despite this, they are still capable of attaining a rather impressive size, and are, by all means, tankbusters.
