Hi guys, I have a standard 65 gallon I’m trying to choose a light for. I saw the sticky threads, they’re great, I’m more looking for specific recommendations if anyone has them though. If anyone has a particular brand or light they like, I’d love to hear about it. I’m a novice, so will probably try sticking to relatively easy plants.

I personally have Fluval Aqua sky led lighting on 2 of my aquariums with plants Anubius and Amazon Swords.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into that one. It’s a pretty deep tank, so I’ll have to make sure it’s strong enough. Sounds like a good place to start

If you want low cost, I was going to suggest Aquaneat off the FleBay or the likes, but it looks like the 48" is out of stock. These will grow low/medium light plants no problem.

Another vote for the aquasky. The app control and weather settings are what sold it for me. My only complaint is that if power goes out you have to reconnect it.

I’m not too worried about staying super cheap. As long as it’s not outrageous. That aquasky light isn’t that expensive. I feel like the aquaneat light is similar to the one I have now and it just doesn’t seem like enough for my tank. I did the calculation from one of the sticky threads, and I think the aquasky would put me in the moderate light range. That should be good enough. Suggestions still appreciated, but I may end up going with that one

So just when I thought I had things sorted out, I noticed Fluval also has a plant 3.0 light. Any thoughts on that vs the aquasky? It’s slightly more expensive, but seems to be designed specifically for planted tanks. Only potential drawback I see is that the aquasky may provide wider coverage

If you have a deep tank and want to grow plants, go for a cannon style led cluster like Kessil Tuna Sun. They are amazing and due to the type of led they use and how it’s mounted, you get amazing scintillation in the water. The tank will look like it’s under actual sunlight with all the rays and glimmer

Same idea, if I was going for a high tech tank I’d probably go with the planted light. Aquasky has more fun options like thunderstorms and such.

Those lights are pretty cool Phreeflow. I’ve probably started wading into this a little deeper than I really need to. Appreciate everyone’s help. Think I have plenty to get started. Definitely have a better idea of what all is out there. You guys are the best
