Congrats on the fry and sorry for the losses
Thanks! I know there will be losses. I was surprised by the females attacking them. Cyps live in schools with their babies so I was shocked. I was also jacked that one was albino. I love albinos. Ive seen albinos for sale at around $200 each here. I wasn't hoping to make money it was just cool I had one.

Anyway females are fattened back up and back with the male and I am working less...ish so maybe we will get a round 2.

Congrats!

I've never had luck raising cyp fry. The females attack because they are mouthbrooders...the protection period is while they are in the mouth.

I have not tried the crazy regimen that works for calvus...but maybe that would be my next step.

I haven't looked into calvus. I will. Thanks!

Surface flooding plants such as Vallisneria gigantea or Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia work very well as cover for newly released Cyprichromis fry. The attacks of the adults reduce by the size of the fry group. And females release earlier when there is already fry in the tank. Once the group was working I ended up having more fish than I wanted pretty quickly.

Yeah I've got floating elodia and pothos roots up there for them to hide in. They were near the bottom and she just speared across the tank and nailed it.

Finally!
So I was going to go with black sand. Then I thought it would've been too dark. Then I thought white as you see. Now I'm thinking adding some black into the white.......
Thoughts?

I think it would look great mixing some black into the white sand. You'll just need to play with the ratios until your happy with it.

I was thinking the same and I need a little more sand, I have black (200lbs lol). There's 60lbs of white in there now thinking adding another 20-30lbs might be enough. I guess I'll start with half that of black and see how it goes.
