Polypterus delhezi — some questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just have another question:
Do Dels also have „problems“ when they are CB?
Like shorter bodys, fat bodys and „frog eyes“ or do they just stay a bit smaller than WC?
I hope you know what i mean with „problems“.
I’m the case of most fish compared to their WC counterparts, there are of course some differences due to years of captive breeding. WC polypterus have a more slender body shape, and most CB bichirs do have that frog eyes look unlike WC bichirs.

Ok but to be honest i dont understand why these differences?
Is it because of inbreeding?

Hello,

i wann to ask another question.
Can i keep a group of Delhezi together with Endlicheri bichir?
Since i heard CB Endlis grow out around 16-18“ (is this True?) and CB Delhezi grow out to normal length around 12-14“ so that would fit together Right?
Or could the Endlis try to eat the Dels when they are a bit bigger as the Dels?
And could i keep a group of bushfish in this tank too?
Thank you for your help!

Depends on each fish but that's about the size where alot of peoples CB endlis have slowed down/stopped growing, ofcourse there are exceptions but most are old fish.
It would take a while for a CB del to get 12",atleast 1 year+
Adult bichirs generally don't prey on each other unless they are starved for long periods of time.
if you get them when they are small (<6") there is a chance endli will outgrow the dels as endlis have a bigger appetite and tend to grow faster. It may try to eat the smaller delhezis.

Ok so maybe i should at first get the Dels feed them a few months and then get the Endlis.
What about the Leopard bushfish?

It maybe more than a few months before you can get the endlis. Some dels are slow eaters or don't eat until they are really really full. Your best bet is to get larger bichirs and bush fish to begin with.

Ok understand, so the correct order for me would be:
1. Dels
2. Bushfish
3. Endlis

The tank is 200x60x50cm (50cm is the Height)
Can i keep the Endlis in this tank for Full lifespan?

Bushfish grow very slow, and may take years to reach their full potential. Adult ones are hard to find. Something to think about.
