Those of you who follow my threads know that I lost my spectacular pink parrot Patch over a month ago. I had a partial report on her condition but had to wait a long time for culture. Here's what she had:
internal fungus
mild bacteria infection
a tumor (cancerous)
cancer blood cells in the gooey fluid extracted from her (both red and white cells)
Fluid buildup was a reaction to the tumor triggering off and on
Tumor kept growing. It would have killed her eventually anyway
Doctor speculated the aspirate may have aggravated the tumor which appeared to be attached to her ovary.
Cystic ovary
Antibiotics worked for a while but the cancer developed a resistance keeping a cycle of infection/remission going.
SHE HAD ALL THIS CRAP FOR OVER A YEAR! And ate, played and was responsive as ever. Even jumped out of the water! Her will defied description but her body screwed up. Here's the report:
We finally got the cytology results back on Patch. I am so sorry for the delay. I spoke with the person who reads the cytology at the lab and she had sent the sample to a board certified specialist to get a second opinion. I believe that is partially what took so long. Nonetheless I apologize.
The results showed atypical epithelial cells consistent with an ovarian tumor, such as an Ovarian Carcinoma. Patch's final diagnosis is an ovarian tumor with a secondary infection. The infection or bacteria most likely gained a foothold within the abnormal cancerous tissue. I suspect she responded to antibiotics due to the infection, but never fully recovered due to the cancer.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the results further please give me a call. I attempted to call you at home today, but just missed you on your way to work. I hope you are doing well and your other fish are thriving and keeping you on your toes.

I recommend these folks 24/7. And Patch? Well, she's just swimming elsewhere:
