I had a breeding harem of Gymnogeophagus balzanii in my 125 (1 male/4 females) along with 6 big swordtails for dithers. I recently lost my male who was absolutely gorgeous. Thinking I have 2 options here:

- Option 1: Source out a new large male (which I have been trying to do with no luck) and continue with breeding harem.
-Option 2: Re-home 4 females & start with new blank slate. Been tossing this around and the wife likes this idea but I'm not sure what I would do.

Could really use some advice and suggestions here. Tank has pool sand substrate, lots of big driftwood pieces, some anubias, java fern and pothos plants with roots in water. If I do go with all new fish would like something a little more interactive community tank. The 125 is looking a little empty.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking that you may benefit from rehoming the rest and starting from a blank state if you've had the eartheaters a while. Trying something new can really kickstart your interest even when it's already very high.

Wife basically said same thing. A community tank with more interactive fish might be nice. I've got enuf breeding projects going with my killifish. I just need some ideas to get things rolling.

What do you think of a community tank with the following or some of the following? They'd be the ones I can best give you advice on.

-Loaches
-Sharks/barbs/tetras
-Archerfish
-Pictus catfish

You can get the gist of these from my signature's list of stocking in my tanks.
For a really varied, interactive community tank, I wonder if you and your wife might enjoy stocking this tank like my 2nd 473 liter (same size as your tank:)).

-6 yoyo loaches
-6 zebra loaches
-6 Burmese loaches
-24 striped kuhli loaches
-24 black kuhli loaches
-9 roseline sharks
-9 Odessa barbs

I think this might fill the bill of what you want because it has a good amount of different species, color, and interaction. This also has the advantage of not needing to be kept terribly warm (like your eartheaters) - 22-25 Celsius will suffice.

Whatever you choose, I hope you and your wife end up with a stunning tank!

I suggest list the fish that you and your wife like. We could help if needed with the compatibility.
I agree, since there are about 3,000 species of catfish, 1500 species of cichlids, 1600 species of tetras worldwide etc etc, narrowing the search down to what you both actually like (as opposed to what I, or somebody else likes) would help a bit.

Too true. LOL

Can you post a video or pics of your tank.

I don't have all the fish yet, but here are the fish I do have plus a full tank shot.
