The 1st pic could be male, just not old/mature enough to present obvious gender traits.
Andinoacara males are a little more elongate, but present a steeper forehead profile, and the unpaired fins usually extend further into the caudal than the females.

Mature male above in spawning dress, same male below normal dress, note how far the fins extend, strong forehead but more elongate body

female above, more boxy body, and note how the fins extend only about half way into the caudal.
Below female in non-spawning colors
Shorter unpaired fins, slightly more boxy body.

All fish above are mature, males bout 7", females 4".
Many of these gender differences are not obvious when young, and even when not in breeding season.

Here is a much better shot, Excuse the lighting. This is the one I was hoping to be male given it is growing much bigger than the smaller one. this is the one in the first picture of my original post

To me it looks female.
Males unpaired fins have very bright blue markings.
Here a male

See how her unpaired fins, while still have marking, they are very subdued

I would love to know where you got your silver saum. Theyre impossible to find in Canada
Guess Ill just have to keep waiting and see if this one ever develops but there is alot more female traits on this fish to me than male. The only thing male ish is the steep forehead. fins have a very slight point but you really have to look for it and its not uncommon for females to have it. its fins would have to grow longer

Can we talk about the black dot at the base of the caudal fin? seems the females in this thread do not have it, but your male does.....
