You could probably do a pair of blue acaras or a pair of firemouths with some dithers and a smaller pleco like bristlenose in a 50.

thanks for the information. Before the monster fish i was planning a planted angel fish tank and i might continue with that as that might be better than one pair of fish and smaller tetras. thank you very much everyoen for the help.

Of those commonly found in pet stores, I recommend a salvini or convict cichlids for your 50g tank. There are many many options though. Too many to list. Like I said any cichlid that doesn't get over 6".

Welcome aboard
Angelfish are territorial as well any other cichlid especially if they pair off and breed. If you bought 4 Angelfish and 2 paired off get rid of the other 2 Angelfish. A planted aquarium with a pair of Angelfish, a group of tetra, and a group of corydoras would look nice.

I would recommend a convict pair + dithers. They have the attitude of large cichlids but stay pretty small.

Yes blue acaras are somewhat friendly and it is entirely possible that a group would work great in your tank. However, when a dominant pair forms and they begin to spawn, they can become territorial and could potentially kill the others in that size tank.

Its best to have more than one tank available when youre experimenting with cichlids so separation is an option when conflict inevitably arises.

I kept a dozen Andinoacara in a 180 gal tank, they are a very close cousin to blues acaras. As one matured and became alpha, he killed all other males, and a few non-receptive females.
He allowed 3 females to survive in that 6 ft amount of space.

I am not really looking for a community aquarium just trying to get into monster fish. if cant have a jack or gt are there alternatives for them. i like how they get big and all the research told me that i can have a gt or jack in a 50?

Are you looking for a solo fish like a wetpet?
