Sajica Cichlid -75 Gallon Set Up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I currently have a 40b. It doesn't have a heater in it. It just ebbs and flows with the room temps staying between 71 and 75 and all fish are thriving. The Honduran Red Points even spawned and the livebearers are birthing like crazy

My Amphilophus Saggitae was also raised this way. Started with a 2in fry. He grew out to 12+

Your fish look great. Lately I've been thinking about tank temperatures versus ambient room temps as I get ready to build out my fish room. I’m adding three 20 longs and am leaning towards selecting species that can thrive at room temp, no heater required. Future plans are to build a double stacked stand for two 75’s and another for two 125’s.

There is a thread here on site that really goes into heating of tanks. In it it defends the notion of keeping tank at lower temps 75° range during winter. Even Central America has winters and the water cools down. Especially in spring when mountain snow melt run off enters the waterways. Ever since I read I have kept all my tanks at 75°. At a point I had three 125s going all at 75 all Centrals all growing at a good pace.

Really tough getting a shot of these guys. They are fast and small. So this was the lame-o shot I could get of one

They are currently in this 65B

My post got cut off and for some reason and it’s giving me trouble posting.

Let’s try this again.

I’m adding three 20 longs and am leaning towards selecting species that can thrive at room temp, no heater required. Future plans are to build a double stacked stand for two 75’s and another for two 125’s, as well as some smaller 10 and 20 gallons and 40 breeders.

Not sure why, but it’s only letting me post short messages so apologies for the multiple posts.

My tanks are located in my basement and it ranges from around 67 in winter to mid 70’s in the summer. I haven't decided on species yet for the already purchased 20 longs (any and all suggestions welcome). But all this has me thinking about my existing tanks temperatures and if the fish would be comfortable at a lower temp.

Great looking tanks! I’m jealous of the 125’s. My Clown Loaches that are growing out in my 90 will move to the future 125, but not sure what other stocking to go along with them.

I remember reading through a thread like you mention, I’m thinking we’re thinking of the same one. That thread has really got me thinking about temperature. I occasionally watch videos from Aquarium Co-Op and they also discussed running tanks cooler. Not for the energy savings and efficiently but to more closely replicate their natural habitats.

Great setup! They are so fast and hard to take a picture of. What are you feeding yours? Mine eat everything so far.
Thanks, the set up is finally done, took a few years to get the garage fish room how I wanted. Currently am feeding foods I had for other tanks, so frozen Hikari krill, mysis shrimp and Omega One mini veggie pellets.

My fish are getting a new light colored substrate soon so Im hoping they dont look so dark all the time.
