So, to start, I'm already having a really bad day with this filter. I picked it up at Petco yesterday in anticipation of an adult red devil.
I opened up the box today, and started getting everything put together. Issue #1, it doesn't fit through the doors of my stand, but I can live with this. Issue #2, both of the plastic brackets that hold the hose to the side of the tank broke when I was putting them on the tank. At this point, I stopped, pulled out the users manual, and tried contacting customer service through the website listed. This sent me to a "this page could not be found" thing. Frustrating, but hey, I can always order new parts, no big deal.
So I get back to hooking up the filter. Everything is done, I followed the instructions, the tank is filled up, I plug the filter in, and it starts pumping water out of BOTH valves on the top. Not a little water either, this was a steady stream of water. I immediately unplugged it, close both valves, detach both hoses and check to make sure the rings are in place, they are and they look fine. So now I decide to call the number in the users manual. Nobody answers and I get a recording. It lists a different website to go to to contact customer service, so I go to this new website and finally find a way to email someone only to get a "we will respond to your email in 3 business days" I don't have the time or patience to wait for 3 business days to get help for a $300 filter that should NOT be having these problems. To add to all of the issues I've had so far because of this filter, my power strip fell off the wall into the water and my genius butt had the bright idea of grabbing it, which ultimately led to a pretty good shock.
So now I'm sitting on my couch frustrated and in tears over a filter that won't cooperate, and an arm that really hurts, coming to you guys for any assistance I can get before I give up and return this thing and settle for something else.

Return that one and get another one from another petco or petsmart with no broken parts. Go on YouTube and type in how to set up properly a fx4 Cannister filter. Don’t give up
Good luck they are good filters

I know they aren't bad, I have an fx6 hooked up to my Oscar tank. It's just frustrating at this point that I can't get this thing to work.

Well, it's been another adventure. Went back to Petco to exchange the filter, I get there, and they can't find my receipt from when I ordered online. So I me and the manager are on the phone with the corporate office for over an hour before she finally says skrew it, hangs up, and just does an exchange like I bought it in store.
I get out to my car, and my car is dead. Won't even turn over. So I call my best friend and he comes and gives my car a jump, and we leave the parking lot and my car dies in the middle of the road. So he circles back around, jumps it again, and I drive it back to the parking lot just in time for it to die again. He gives me a ride home. So over all today, I soaked my carpet, got zapped, and my car is on strike 40 minutes from home. But I got my filter and my bestie bought me McDonald's for dinner.

Yes I'm attention seeking, lol, and I'm totally done with life for today.

Sounds like your alternator needs to be replaced on your car. Speaking from experience don’t keep trying to jump start it or you will need a new battery as well.

Yeah, I only jumped it to get it home, then jumped it to get it out of the road. I'm going to have to have it towed in the morning.

Ok a younger me made that mistake and jumped/charged the battery just enough to get home but after replacing the alternator I needed a new battery 😓

As a teenager, I kept leaving the headlights on on my dad's elcamino and kept having to have it jumped. I ended up having to buy a new battery, and got grounded from the car. It took me a few more times of getting stranded to learn to turn the headlights off 😅

Minus all the car issues I am having same issue with new fluval fx4 valves leaking - they don’t seem to be the right values as they fit very loose. Do your replacement one work? I hate to have to pack it all back up but I’m at a lose.

A little more reading and close inspection I see that my fx4 did not come with o-rings on the valves - part A20212. found on Amazon for $10 - arriving tomorrow. Would like to return whole thing and get new one but not worth the hassle to repack and ship.
