as I get older, one thing keeps coming up: what do I do when it is time to leave for college. Right now i have some 17 fish tanks from a mere 10 gallons to 1500. This is hard because as badly as I wanna keep all of them, it is just impossible. So now I am tasked with downsizing to nearly 1/4 of my stock. The issue with these monster fish, is that, for example we replace my dovii with a school of 20 cardinal tetras, they'd have a new home tomorrow. But the issue with this is not many people around me can properly take care of a dovii. OFR and viktor are not options for me either as they are too far. I am going to keep my malawi cichlids, bumblebee grouper, chinese wels, and some rare cyrpinids and stuff. My ompok pabda is coming with me to college (hehe). I think it would be much easier for me if I wasn't so worried about all these efforts to ban so many fish I love. Luckily I will be researching freshwater biology, and the dream goal is to be a conservationist as well as fish store owner/importer. I have volunteered at my local aquarium which does have rtc and arapiama. I am also planning a trip to Suriname in the future. I apologize for such an off topic rant, but it is something i have been meaning to talk about for a while. I probably have homes for my community fish like my white clouds and yoyo loaches. Hopefully i can have a system before i go away. Once again the worry is graduating and alot of the fish I love to keep even like smaller cichlids, being banned. Space isnt an issue, nor really is having some one care for their basic care, like feeding etc. but I may need some one to clean the tanks.

That is a problem a lot of young fish keepers with access to even a decent size tank end up having, they plan for here and now, they fail to take the future into account as it’s only a matter of time until they must leave their parents house and then they have to come to terms with their dilemma.

As to your individual situation I’d recommend putting a thread out in the marketplace for your fish and you can thoroughly vet them and their fish keeping capabilities before you have them over.

The fish did not ask to be in your care.
since you chose them, their welfare is your responsibility.
Thank you was not aware about this…
No need to say things like that… I was saying certain things. For a reason

The issue with what you’re saying is, yes I have big fish but I have the provisions. I work two jobs in the summer. Didn’t post this to be nit picked.
This is the issue with so many forums… 🤷‍♂️

You should reach out to them to see if they may adopt the fish.
I don't believe the fish will be properly cared for while you at college.
I was thinking the same, reach out to local aquariums , LFS, and even restaurants that have large aquariums. I rehomed a marbled cat shark to a restaurant that had a large number of aquariums including a 30ft shark tank, also seek out fellow monster keepers in young area

Thank you once again for actual helpful advice rather than criticism.

Smaller fish are easy to rehome. Ohio fish rescue and Viktor, although too far away from you, surely are not the only places which would gladly take your bigger fish within a reasonable distance from you?

One thing is for sure. Your education is key here, NOT fish. The worry of keeping your fish is not a distraction you want whilst studying for your future.

You've all the time in the world to get back into the hobby once you finish your education.
