I cant keep rainbowfish as dithers with African cichlids. I can keep them with south American semi-aggressive convict Jack Dempsy Green Terror and salvini but not African clichlids they always end up dead. But Giant danio can go with anything and do fine. Is it because of the speed? I Thought rainbow fish were just as fast I guess I was wrong.

Another Thing is I keep reading and being told that giant daino get six inches but I have never seen one larger than 3 inches. Is there a person in this world that has ever had a giant danio that is six inches?

Welcome aboard
rainbowfish as dithers with African cichlids. I
They probably look similar in color to the African Cichlid. The giant danios are fast and don't have color like the african cichlids. The Convict cichlid are a central American species.

Welcome to the forum!
How big is the tank?
I’ve had mbuna harass rainbowfish, but I’ve never tried them with giant danios. Generally Africans don’t really do well with dithers. They act as each others dithers.
My oldest danios never got bigger than 3 inches or so. I’ve never heard of them larger.
Btw, jacks, salvini, and convicts are all Central American.

To me
Austrailian fish don't belong with any other than Australian fish.
African fish don't belong with any other than African fish.
Central American fish don't belong with any other than Central American fish.

So as such
Giant Danios don't belong with than other than Asian fish.

To me, fish from Panama, even don't belong with fish from Mexico.
because In nature even they don't mix.

Even in eastern Panama where I live, some western fish don't mix fish from the eastern Panama.

Too much?
to me Biotopes are important.
and this is the way I roll.

Deadeye is right…African cichlids mostly act as dithers amongst themselves. If you have space for danios or rainbows, you’d be better off adding more Africans
