Now, a while ago I got a species of Guianacara sold as a Geophagus. I did a post on MFK about my fish, which is where I first learned it was Guianacara. Now, I wanna know what Guianacara I own. My guess is either dacrya or owroewefi, but I'm not an expert. Here's my best photo of my fish:

If it helps, these are some of mine and I am pretty sure they are owroewefi , as I know the parents were wild from French Guiana and apparently only owroewefi and geayi occur there, and they have the black first dorsal fin ray which, according to the diagram, excludes geayi. In contrast to the experience of duanes, mine hardly change color or pattern at all, except that the female when breeding becomes a little darker, and the stripe through the eye varies in intensity.IMG_0497.jpegIMG_0495.jpeg

Thanks for the opinion, but owroewefi are fairly rare here, now of course dacrya would be too, but it's definitely more common than owroewefi. This presents a higher chance of me buying dacrya, because as I said, it was sold to me as a species of Geophagus, so clearly the seller doesn't really know that much about cichlids, he just sells them.

I don't think G. geayi is collected with any regularity if at all, according to TFH magazine. I think you might have G. sphenozona which is what I think I have 🤪.
