Got My New Tank!

Ugh.....irritated! Got my Denison Barbs but they are much smaller than what I had ordered. I won't say where I ordered them from because they do have great reviews but I am going to call them. The GT already ate one and the Bichir actually got one. They're about 1.5-2" at most but very skinny. I paid for 2.5-3" fish. Again, still didn't really think he'd go after them as he is 4" maybe 4.5" long.

That was a $150 mistake so hopefully I can get some sort of a refund....

I'm just going to keep the Rainbows for now I guess. My biggest worry is that I would NEVER feed my GT feeder fish. In the past week he has now eaten one of these as well as 3 Tiger Barbs. These are all fish from reputable shops but should I worry about him getting sick?

Lesson learned - he can eat larger fish than I thought!

Let me guess TWS i ordered some Sijica advertised at 1-1.5 they are 0.75-1 and very skinny also
 
If you didn't get what you ordered...i.e. fish of a specified size...then you certainly have a legitimate complaint. But...when you saw how small they were, and then still put them into the tank, I'm afraid that's all on you.

When you saw that the GT had killed one...that should have been the lesson. Then he did it again; why were those fish still in there?

And now that you know his capabilities and behaviour...what could possess you to think that leaving the last few in there will end any differently?

And regarding your concern over disease...it sounds as though these new fish went straight into the tank with no quarantine? If so, you are playing Russian Roulette with your fish, and it hardly matters if they eat the new guys or not.

You are right about that, but I really did not think he would eat them.

I guess that’s probably foolish of me to think the other three will survive as well now, I will remove them and give them to a local store. I just really wanted these to work as I love how they look, I guess I’ll have to try something larger for a schooling fish.

You could always try silver dollars?
 
Yeah for sure on the SD’s! The Rainbows are pretty cool though and he doesn’t mess with them at all!

Maybe I’ll get some more Rainbows or some SD’s.

I’ll keep this updated.

Yeah if you like the rainbows I would add more. Then if you get a 6ft tank I would add silver dollars and maybe a pleco. And if you want to risk it maybe a cichlid but you know your fish best so maybe not.
 
Silver dollars are tricky. Usually they are too skittish to be good dithers, they make the other fish too nervous.
