Tiger Shovelnose

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice to hear. Another advice I can give you is to ask for a current picture or video. It helps a lot to if the species and size are correct and how healthy they are.

If they just send some Stock or old image, I would not buy both for the risk and respect.

I did ask for an image but the seller said they can’t supply me with an image because it’s the breeder that send the fish and not them which don’t fill me with confidence. To be honest I’d have been happy with my money back and then I’d have this kettle fella to grow out but I can only hope that I get what I wanted come Thursday

If they don't have the fish in their own store they are not a seller but a trader (don't judge the words, I have no idea how to correctly express them in english)

In germany the biggest name when it comes to buying rare fish is like that, he has like 2 beautiful Aquariums in which he takes great imagines, but everything on his list is sold directly from the importers facility or others stores. And he charges hefty on top of the regular prices. But he at least sends you videos and imagines if you ask him for them. But its cheaper to buy directly from the stores/breeders than via him.

I would not buy in your store tbh. Like, how am I supposed to trust a store that doesn't even know/have visual access to what they are selling?

I hope they send you the correct animal, but if not just stick with them and don't buy there again.

Yes totally agree, the seller ( who I paid ) don’t actually have the fish in three store but they use a distributor/ breeder that ships the fish out to the buyer ( me )

I am hoping that they send the correct fish too. I didn’t pay for the second one as I made the claim and they said that it was a pick error so they said they will send me the correct fish feee of charge but if the next one comes and is not correct I would not go back to them

So today we’ve took a turn as I visited a shop close to work for no particular reason but to just have a look on my lunch break and we come across this, marked up as a Brachyplatystoma Tigrinum ( zebra shovelnose ).

He’s about 15cm long, looks a little skinny but I’ll fix that.

I’ve removed all my small plecos and the other cross breed cat I got which are all going to my father in law

Ansorgii Ansorgii any info from you will be greatly appreciated mate.

The fella in the shop told me that it’s a rare find and he struggles to get hold of them and that they are wild caught from Peru ( I don’t believe everything I’m told )

I will get some better images tomorrow he was a little a stressed here just fresh out the bag

They are rare and usually more on the expensive side. However I think for your tank with the Aro a way better option than the TSN.

They are more laid back, don't grow as fast and large and overall less aggressive, for a pred cat. But they also need better water quality to fully shine. You can see how well he likes the water at the length of the filament, if noone keeps biting it off.

An Awesome pick up. And yes, the are wild, since all Brachyplatystoma need to migrate in order to spawn.

They like clean warm water, a decent bit of a current and some covered placed to rest, like a large lifted plate in the Corner or big piece of wood, will be greatly appreciated.

They can turn yellowish as they age due to the fat, same as Wels catfish, but a healthy lean diet will prevent that.

Your animal looks very great, I am looking forward for updates.
