Maybe we cichlidophiles make too much of location variants, maybe not.
I have been finding, those cichlids from wide, open rivers, are quite different than narrow tree lined, folliage covered streams.
The Darienheros species living in the wide and open Mamoni are much more pale and golden....

Whether these color vaiants will remain permanent when pllaced in a tank, may change (although not so far for the Darenheros).
Diet from one river to the next may also be a factor.
