i had one a few years back it ate shrimp pellots when i first got it as it got bigger it would eat anything, but when i put it into my bigger tank my jardini killed it

Just make sure it has surface access, as Heterotis are limited air-breathers and regularly gulp air from the surface.

Both. They sift food along the bottom and will also eat from the surface. Mine swim fairly constantly.

ive just added a 4ftx8"x12" to grow them out to abut 5/6" ( the only spare tank ive got).

should i add substrate? or just a bare tank?

ive been to see them tonight, there really small but they were eating frozen blood worm after being in the shop for 3 hrs.

Best kept like I posted...bare tanks and sponge filters. At least until they hit around 8" and have built up some fat to sustain them between feedings. The young have to have access to food 24/7 or they'll fold quickly. Bare tanks make finding the food easier for the fish and easier for the owner to keep clean from all the feedings. Sponge filters will keep food on the surfaces for the af aros to graze on between feedings. The filters should be rinsed every other day to keep the surface food from spoiling.
