Also, with the bottom of the tank being bare until I finish the room where it will be permanently residing, what is the preferred method of "blacking out" the bottom of the tank? I don't need a permanent solution, just something for the time being.

If you want it short term and not permanent, I would just tape up some black construction paper or poster board to the underside of the tank.

Remember to drill siphon breaks and test amd retest the water level in the sump to account for back flow when the pumps are off

Set up looks great btw

Im sure you'll be fine. Funny my 1st two sumps were fairly simple. No leaks at all everything went smooth. I guess i got cocky because my most recent set up leaked like the titanic

So far so good, no leaks.

The PFS from Menards is not as clean as the stuff from my local pool supply store..20180219_183437.jpg

Well the driftwood is still floating, but I do like the look of it coming from the top, mangrove-esque.

It was looking much clearer this morning (the back of the tank is visible finally)

Water is getting pretty clear, starting to get a yellow tint from the driftwood. Added the rest of the river rocks.

All of the driftwood from my previous setup that say dry for 7 months has the white fuzzy fungal looking stuff growing on it. I've had it in the past on driftwood that dries and is designed, it goes away after a few days
