Help sizing pump for 135g

I am drilling the baffles for my sump, and I have a question...

What is the flow rate of water through a 3/8" hole. I am needing to know how many holes I need to drill into the baffles for my fluidized K1 section,

I just watched a video on sump construction that said a 7/16" will let through only 10gph, 3/8" is slightly smaller.

That can't be right can it? that would mean in order to keep up with the flow of my filtration, which I want to be around 1000gph, I would need to drill over a 100 holes in each baffle? I am not sure I could even fit 100 holes on a 12" x 18" baffle

So i found this chart, it says 1 PSI a 3/8th orifice union hole will drain 2.56 gpm or roughly 150 gph.

Which leads me to my next question, how do I determine PSI of water in an aquarium...

There is essentially no “psi” in the situation you are talking about. It will be equal water height on both sides, so pressure will be the same.

I am having trouble picturing what you are trying to do. Is there a reason you want water to flow through the baffles and not over or under them? It seems to me that getting a shorter baffle and letting water flow under or over it will work better for what you want to do. Do you have any pictures you can post so that we can get an idea of the setup?

Water needs to flow through the holes instead of over and or under so the K1 media stays in the media chamber.

Here is the video that references the 10 gph through a 7/16th hole.

Ahh, I gotcha. In that case, rather than drill a bunch of small holes, I would drill holes for two 1.5” bulkheads, and then put strainers on them to keep the K1 in.

Yeah, I think I am worrying or overthinking it too much, if you look in the video he only drills about 34 holes in each side, I will go with about 48, I just don't want to create a situation where I am creating a bottleneck in my system and restricting my flow.

The good news is my 2 Jebao 6500 DCPs came in today. So I am hoping I can get my sump construction done over the weekend

I got the sump constructed for the most part, waiting on my filter sock holders, filter socks, K1 media, air pump, and air stones to arrive from amazon.

Next question:

How do you get the memory out of vinyl tubing so that it is more pliable. The 1" braided is holding a coil something fierce.

Dunk the tubing in a sink or tub filled with hot water. That usually softens it up so that you can use it.

I was able to get it mostly finished up over the weekend.

Lights are 4x 30w Stasun 6500k LED floodlights

Just waiting on the 2x 10" airstones to churn the K1 media.

Here it is empty with the lights on:
