Where do you guys buy red sand for your bichirs?

Does anyone know if the garnet sand is heavy enough to use a gravel hose with? EDIT: same with the sprectraquartz can I use a grav vac to clean it up with every once in a while?

    picky bichirs

I've found each poly to have it's own preferences, mine for instance won't even touch blood worms or mysis shrimp Try fillets of tillapia or if you can earthworms (make sure to rinse well before feeding) or ghost shrimp. Every poly I've seen has eaten those.

    206G Plywood Tank...Done - Part1

Wow, just saw this and I can't help but tell you how impressed I am. Something tells me you would love some of the ghost towns up here in Montana.

    Fish noob with bichir questions

Lol don't worry about it, they're interesting fish and unfortunately mislabeled fairly often, you're probably going to get bitten by the bug just like I was. Have fun researching. I actually just posted pics of my senegal in the media lounge you may want to check it out if you're still unsure...

Might just be a senegal then, obviously pics are needed, but you may not have a congp

    Fish noob with bichir questions

You're certain it's a congo? I just ask because they aren't nearly as common as most polys, and the people who generally collect them aren't likely to just give them away. The black neon will be just fine in the 10 gal, I have 5 with my senegal, they're essentially there as feeders as he...

    Dino

Your khuli loach story actually sounds pretty familiar. I used to have 2 khuli loaches, unfortunately Dino tried eating one and it ended up about the same your story did, with the exception that the poor khuli loach died of it's injuries.

    Dino

Well I actually have a cabin on a lake that has some pretty impressive crawfish, so I have fed him their tails before and he seemed to like them. It was a no-go on the job and no hikari food, I'll keep looking around or just order online. Once again thanks for all the help and sorry for the...

    Dino

Damn, ok well I actually have a job interview with the lfs so while I'm there I'll check to see if they have any haha, he just depopulated my tank of the 20 or so ghost shrimp in a week. Last time I visited they only seemed to have omega one and top fin brands :/ Mine is really active as...

    Help IDing pleco

Yeah, I've only ever seen him suck on my senegal once and it was as soon as I'd got him, after he'd been fed he hasn't done it since. So I'm not to concerned, but I know to watch out for it, if I suspect even a minor infection or notice anything that looks like it I'll plan on taking him to a...

    Min tank size for BGK

Hey sorry to ask a question that is already answered in the sticky but what would you all consider the minimum tank size for a BGK? I'm planning on growing one out with 3 polys. Would a 75g be enough to comfortably fit the BGK? I've seen other sites list the minimum tank size as 100g rather...
