yea i would look into larger fish i really dont know why your gars did that to the angels i mean they are long fish in terms of height so wide fish aren't usually gar food. look into nicer looking cichlids that wont be lunch and that your wife might like just run a couple fish by her if she says...

Wow thanks for the replies! I was thinking more along the lines of a predator based tank that's why I mentioned needle nose gar... If there is something better I'm open to suggestions! And the bichir is gonna be one of the first fish to go in so he'll be big enough before the Oscar gets in :)...

cool guys thanks! i looked into the eheim and i guess ill have to rack up some money because thats a bit out of budget. but i guess it would work. also i heard that oscars and pictus dont get along too well oscars have tried to eat them :(
