    My heros infatuation!

The redness doesnt seem to correlate with M/F in my experience, at least with mine. Mine do seem to favor more speckling in the cheeks with less red in the body than others I have seen.

Advise needed: ideal geophagus for a 125 gallon

Winemilleri have great color and stay a reasonable size. They have a great shape which my camera phone distorts, so it doesnt look as good. They also have really nice color, but mine is in black water low light conditions so it doesnt show as much as it should.

    Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

It has a bunch of 6-8 foot runners

    New into the pleco hobby.

I think you need to learn about the nitrogen cycle. Stability isn't going to help you get rid of nitrates, you need to do water changes.

Here is what I know about psuedarinelepis. Genibarbis is the officially described species. In the official description they said they are brown to dark charcoal gray with few if any spots. During their collection they did note there was one outlier from a collection point in the Rio Branco...

While not as flashy, full grown genebaris are very awesome plecos. Pics don't to them justice.

I dont believe that genebarbis/L152 show orange at any size other than maybe a tiny bit in the tail section similar to a rhino pleco. My 4 small L095 have shown a lot of orange since I got them at ~6"

    Sunshines munching on DW

If you have a pearsei in the tank, that could be the culprit. Or pearsei are such greedy eaters, the 14/253 aren't getting enough food and resorting to the biofilm. 14s are very greedy eaters, but I had to move mine from a tank with a pearsei and severums because it couldnt get enough food...

    Severum: Heros notatus

I keep most varieties of severum, and to me the notatus are the best looking. Even better than reds, severus, and inirida.

They have put in about 1.5 inches in the past year. I dont power feed any of my fish though. Jeff Rapps has had some for sale for a long time that are smaller, but they aren't cheap and I'm guessing that's why he has had them so long.

Their teeth suggest they aren't a specialized feeder. I call them garbage plecos as they tend to eat what ever. Mine have all done well with a variety of foods. They all like to eat the cichild pellets and that I use as a staple. Other foods include fresh veggies, spirulina pellets, krill...

I think they would be ok in a acrylic tank. They dont really have specialized scraping teeth like a panaque, but they to scrape biofilm a bit. If you want to be perfectly safe, your best bet for larger plecos are ones more suited towards meat like Scobinancistrus, and Pseudacanthicus. I...
