Best medicine to treat internal parasites?

At this point, if there's still stringy feces after treatment with Hex-Shield, you should move onto levamisole. Treatment, if I recall correctly, is about 1/4 teaspoon of levamisole HCL per 75-100 gallons...

    AC70 enough aeration for a 29g?

I used to use an AC70 for a planted community 29GL ... worked fine. Based on your stocking I'd say it would be adequate.

Anyone in the states have a snake head before they were banned?

I find it interesting to note the reason why snakeheads were banned vs. some arowanas. In the case of arowanas, although the claim is made that they are "endangered', the real reason for their being banned is money. One way to ensure a fish species is NOT endangered is to place it in the...

Best medicine to treat internal parasites?

No. There's plenty of garlic in NLS Hex Shield ... garlic, magnesium sulfate, and a chemical similar to metronidazole. No need to double up on garlic. HexShield will treat the same things as API GENERAL CURE or Seachem Metroplex. The problem could be caused by something which HexShield will...

    To young and old

I had my first tank when I was 16. I'm 47 now. Back then, the only way to be successful keeping fish is if you were lucky enough to know someone who happened to know what they were doing and they educated you. In that sense, it isn't much different today except that there are more sources of...

    Best Tankmates for Jack Dempsey?

I kept mine in a 75 GL .. originally in a 40B. If I had it to do over again (tempting) I'd want to raise guppies or some other livebearers in a separate tank and let them reproduce. I'd treat the first ones with levamisole, and the standard ick treatment (84F temp and 3-5 ppt salt or 2...

PLEASE HELP: Oscar Fish Gasping Badly, Lethargic

You mentioned ammonia and nitrite stabilized. Does this mean that they are both at 0 ppm? Because ammonia and nitrite are MUCH more toxic than nitrAte and it is difficult to treat a fish successfully if ammonia and/or nitrIte are in the water. Regarding treatment in a quarantine vs. original...

PLEASE HELP: Oscar Fish Gasping Badly, Lethargic

I would hold off on treatment, especially with antibiotics, until you have resolved the issue with your water parameters (ammonia and nitrite). You need to figure out why ammonia and nitrite are so high if they had not been high before. A couple possibilities regarding the water parameters: 1)...

Sunday morning pics of my 375 gallon sa/ca cichlid community tank

Thanks for sharing the pictures. That's a great looking tank with some very nice fish. Tanks like this are always fun to watch.

    is this free tank safe?

It sounds like a chemical may have been used ... possibly to sterilize the plastic plants/tank at some time. There's no telling. They could have used something like acetone. -But it is almost certainly safe to use. Chemicals like these evaporate.

    Live versus fake plants

I wonder if that YouTuber might have been selling live plants online. If you're in the business of selling live plants then you don't like the fake ones. In my experience, plastic and silk artificial plants are great for fish that uproot plants. The fish can move the artificial plants wherever...

    Cycling new 300 gallon?

Correct. Although many sources claim that fish are very sensitive to changes in pH (as little as 0.2), this is simply NOT the case. I've experimented with this in planted tanks in which I've added CO2 gas which lowers pH. In one case, I mistakenly put so much CO2 into a tank that pH dropped...

    Cycling new 300 gallon?

You can add the fish immediately after moving some filtration from the 125 over to the 300 ... no need to use ammonia ... the fish will produce it. I wouldn't add too many fish at once ... but the bacteria colony grows fast in order to accomodate the bioload. Keep a check on ammonia and nitrite.

    Nitrite .25i 125 gallon

I agree. You don't yet have enough nitrifying bacteria to convert all the ammonia into nitrite and nitrite into nitrate, and you likely are dealing with a higher level of ammonia now than you had during cycling. The other thing you need to be aware of is that if your tap water contains...

    Prime question

Your tank is likely only 80 gallons of water so 9 packets should be fine. Instructions recommend another dose on day 3. Be sure you have no carbon in your filtration. What are you treating BTW?

Official Off Topic Discussion Thread #1

The public's reaction doesn't match the facts given to us by the media. According to those numbers, at this rate, by the end of the year, deaths due to COVID-19 will not even reach 0.1% (annually) ... that is 30,000 deaths / 330,000,000 Americans = 0.1% or 1 in 1,000. In fact, 2/3 of the way...

    Amount to feed oscars

You're performing weekly fin-level water changes so the water quality will be fine even if you're overfeeding a little. Regarding how much food the oscar needs .. he's still growing and I think your schedule is fine for now. When he reaches one year I would decrease that amount and, a two years...
