Man, those are awesome looking fish. I’ve had some build nests with random stuff, but never fenced off their area. That’s pretty cool.

I have one on my 240g and it stays on the 24/7 cycle. As stated before me, it keeps the fish calmer at night and doesn't really effect them during the daytime. Algae growth has not noticeably changed either from when I used to turn it off at night.

Nice pics! I have a few oscars that do the mating dance, but never any eggs. Makes me wonder if the temp is to low for them.

Lol. Yep, cichlids kinda do whatever they want and will do that no matter our plan for them.

I’ll jump on the bandwagon for the Wetspot. Their fish have always arrived healthy and looking to eat. They sell and ship quality fish. I’ve also ordered and been very pleased with AngelsPlus. I think that they have raised their prices a bit though.

Could always use black diamond blasting sand. But if you’re going to use gravel then I think you will need to buy aquarium gravel. I have used Mexican Beach Pebbles from Lowe’s in one of my tanks. They stayed black, but are much larger than gravel.

My wife finally gave in and we built a house. I got a built in 240g and a decent sized fish room! It’s awesome. But, like redfish, I don’t object when she wants to do anything. It’s a win win marriage.

Well, I use it every deer season to keep deer meat cold for days at a time. I have to wrap part of the area where the two contact so that the meat doesn’t get freezer burnt or just plain cold burnt. I still wouldn’t do it, especially as all of the warnings say to use gloves when handling maybe...

I wouldn’t do it. Besides the expense, it is super cold and could a ton of other stuff into your system. Others may have more info though.

I forgot to mention that the regular looking babies are noticeably larger than the EB’s, about 2 to 3 times bigger, depending on if the big Boi of the spawn is used or not.

Breed faster? Maybe have several tanks with a single female in each one then put the male in each one for a few days until they breed. Mine bred in about 2 days after being introduced.

Have you thought about a Green Sunfish? They can get pretty aggressive and look good as well. They have the “bass” body shape but don’t get nearly as large and a 75 can hold 1 or 2 of them.

While they are dirty fish, they’re not insanely messy. Just have a few clean up fish like Silver Dollars and a pleco to eat the leftovers and you’ll be good. The filtration doesn’t have to be insane either. Just keep up on water changes with correct filtration, don’t overfeed and good tank...
