    Geophagus Sveni spawn question

Thats what i do normally, somtimea ill let young paira carry a few spawns to get the hang of things. But this time the pair laid and immediately the female scooped up the eggs that were stuck to the slate. Shes still carrying them, it would appear. I dont see this succeeding long term but it...

    Geophagus Sveni spawn question

Ive had my 3x sveni pairs spawn a few times, with no success yet. Theyre still figuring it out, and thats fine. But i just had a pair lay and it seems like the female scooped the eggs right up into her mouth, off of the slate, right after laying and i presume fertilization. The eggs that are...

Thanks for the suggestion, i have a gameplan for next spawn. Im going to let them work it out in the hopes they become good parents. They seem to be, up to a point then somthing goes wrong. Well see what happens this next time. Plan kn putting the pair in a 125g with 4 other sveni and a few...

    G. Sveni keep eating their eggs...

Interesting. I have this pair in a 20gal for breeding. I have introduced a different male (i have 3, with one being of this pair) on numerous occasions. To give the female "choices" and to ensure she would spawn with one of the 2. They have always spawned and have always remained tightly...

    G. Sveni keep eating their eggs...

You referenced my post from an earlier spawn ha. Seems like im the only one breeding this sp right now, i cant connect with anyone who has direct experience with breeding this specific geo sp. Keeping my fingers crossed next time i get it right. Im going to remive the egg slate to a breeder...

    G. Sveni keep eating their eggs...

The pair that is currently spawning is the only pair that has emergered from a group of 6. This pair has always had a very se ure bond and i waited many months before pulling them and segregating them in a 20gal for spawning. Ill continue to try to get a successful spawn out of them, as the...

    G. Sveni keep eating their eggs...

So this is the 3rd time my pair has spawned. First time the male carried the newly hatched eggs/fry for aboit a week and apparently swallowed them. 2nd spawn the parents didnt pay attention.to the clutch and fungus took over. Now im on spawn 3, thought 3rd time was the charm. Apparently not...

    Geophagus Sveni - Egg questions

Do you think it would be wise to add an airstone close to the spawn site to assist in water movement/oxygenation? Im worried aboit fungal growth, but water movement is pretty sufficient for the time being. But will be greatly.reduced when i pull the hob filter and go with just the foam filter...

    Geophagus Sveni - Egg questions

Thank you so very much for an informative response. Loaded with good stuff. I have the pair in their own 20gal long, in which they have resided since pairing off about 2.5 months ago. The male seems to be ontop of parental duties at the moment (12 hrs or so after laying) and mom has been...

    Geophagus Sveni breeding questions

Thanks to you both for replying. I have some good news, after only 5 days in the "honeymoon/spawn tank" we have an offical pair out of the 6! Ive outfitted the tank with 2 peices of slate and will keep tabs on their progress. Very happy and will start a new thread to chronicle my experience...

    Geophagus Sveni breeding questions

Thank you for your reply, i figured that would be the jist of it. Same as many other geophagus sp. breeding behavior. As to the tank, the 54corner is being used strictly as a "honeymoon tank". As soon as i spot a pair i will remove the other 4 and return them to their original home in one of my...

Hey all, My 6x group of g. Svenis are growing quite well and are at about 4-4.5" now. I have moved the group to a 54gal corner tank with the hope that, as they mature, ill start to see some pairing. Being that this is my first time trying my hand in breeding geophagus sp. Can anyone give me...
